Did you know there’s a type of flower that only grows on the cliffs of Cheddar Gorge?
Over millions of years the landscape, flora and fauna of the gorge has become colourfully diverse. Grassland of its wonderful quality is rare in the UK and Europe, which is why it is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Importance (SSSI).
Its rich soil can support up to 40 species of flowering plants in just one square metre, making it the European equivalent of a tropical rainforest.
