A major new conference centre could be built next to The O2 arena under new plans being finalised by owners AEG.
The entertainment group is working on a planning application in conjunction with Greenwich Council to add a 3,000-delegate conference and event space to the London venues sector.
Also involved in the submission is the Homes and Communities Agency, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment and representatives from the Office of the Mayor of London.
They are looking to submit the plans, which also include a hotel, in early 2010.
"AEG is considering options for the development of a 450-bed, four-star hotel, and this will include a significant events and banqueting centre," confirmed a spokesperson for The O2.
Earlier this month, councillors approved plans for an £85 million extension to the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
These include expanding banqueting facilities to cater for up to 1,600 people and adding a moving floor to the auditorium to allow the space to be converted for exhibition and banqueting use.
