A new sales director has been appointed at Newport's Celtic Manor Resort in a move that is intended to boost corporate business at the establishment, reports walesonline.co.uk.
Gillian Venning brings with her nearly 15 years of experience with the Marriott Group including six years in charge of specialist sales. Ms Venning will be intending to capitalise on the luxury resort's appeal as a conference venue which has been the UK's Top Conference Hotel twice over the last three years and will host the Ryder Cup two years from now.
She told the website: "I am looking forward to applying all my skills and experience to the task of attracting more business here with so much interest in Celtic Manor as the host venue for the next Ryder Cup."
Attracting a larger base of corporate guests will be among the conference venue's biggest priorities against a background of widespread economic turbulence and cost-cutting.
In other news, caterersearch.com reports that Newport Council is calling for local restaurant owners to pull out all the stops in making a real impression in terms of regional cuisine and dining in preparation for the golf tournament.
