The showcase has given NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau an opportunity to meet with delegates to promote the destination and encourage even more people to attend the Spring Forum event when it takes place next year. The team also provided delegates with advice and information on practical issues, such as how to book accommodation using the bureau’s online booking system.
Jessica Roberts, head of business tourism at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, said: “The Conservative Party Annual Conference has provided an excellent platform to meet with a wide range of potential customers. The event was a great success and we had high levels of interest from people who want to visit NewcastleGateshead. Many delegates coming to the Spring Forum took the chance to talk to us and get a flavour of what we’re all about. It gave us a great indication that delegates are looking forward to their visit to the region.”
The Conservative Spring Forum is coming to NewcastleGateshead in February 2008. The three-day event will be held at The Sage Gateshead and is expected to attract around 1,500-2,000 visitors to the region.
Venues in the increasingly popular event destination NewcastleGateshead got a promotional boost recently when the area’s convention bureau showcased its events facilities at the Conservative Party’s Annual Conference in Blackpool.
The move followed the destination’s successful bid to host the Conservative Spring Forum in 2008.
More than 10,000 representatives attended the annual event, including Shadow Cabinet ministers, MPs, peers, MEPs, council group leaders, councillors and policy advisors. In addition, leading members of the press and media groups, businesses, charitable organisations, think tanks and campaigning societies were present.
