To coincide with this year’s Drowning Prevention Week Buckinghamshire venue, Stoke Mandeville Stadium, is offering a free children’s taster session in lifeguarding and rescue techniques and incorporating elements of the water safety code into the whole of its Swim School.
Drowning Prevention Week commences on the 24th June with the free session taking place on Thursday 27th June at the Rookie Club from 5pm till 6pm. The Rookie Club is a Royal Life Saving Society Course run at the stadium on a weekly basis for children who want to learn lifesaving and rescue techniques. Children must be aged between nine and 16 and be above ASA Stage 6 to be eligible to join the club.
Letters will also be sent to local schools with Water Safety code posters and Water Safety booklets to ensure children are well informed on how to stay safe in the water.
Ian Seabrook, Business Development Manager at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, said: “It is vital that children are fully aware of the dangers of being in the water so they can stay safe whilst swimming. We hope many children take the opportunity to come to our free taster session and learn some new skills about lifesaving in the pool.”
