Plans to build a new conference and wedding venue in Birkenhead Town Hall have moved a step closer.
Wirral Council has invited the Hamilton Partnership, which is behind the proposals to build The John Peel Centre in tribute to the legendary Heswall-born DJ, to submit a business plan.
Council leader Steve Foulkes said that the group would be able to consult officers on the plans and make the most of their knowledge and expertise.
"However, I must stress that there are no guarantees at this stage and the future ownership of Birkenhead Town Hall will depend entirely on the strength and sustainability of the partnership's final submission," he added.
The potential addition to Liverpool venues would include a theatre and studio space, arts workshops and an academy, the John Peel archive, a business and enterprise centre and a resource centre for the community and voluntary sector.
In related news, the Albert Dock is to stage the inaugural Liverpool Boat Show in 2011, which is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors.
