Description
Ashlyns School is a Grade II Listed building, situated in leafy Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, just off the A41 and M25.
Ashlyns was built in 1935 as a Foundling Hospital which moved here from the original building in Coram Fields, as London at that time was considered too unhealthy. The Foundling Hospital had been set up in 1739 under a Royal Charter for the ‘education and maintenance of exposed and deserted young children’ and enjoyed the patronage of such worthies as George Frederic Handel and William Hogarth.
Ashlyns is now a flourishing upper school with all the modern facilities that you would expect. We are very proud of our beautiful buildings, in particular our glorious chapel, which has been used for weddings and blessings and even filming, including an Eastender’s christening!
Facilities include the main hall, dining halls, class rooms, drama studios, ICT suites and sports facilities.
The location has been used several times by film makers and television production companies, most famously for the making of “The Son of Rambow” and "The Crown". We regularly accommodate weddings ranging from very small affairs to large Asian weddings. Parking facilities are also excellent at Ashlyns, which make it a great base for sports camps, conferences and weddings.
